The mother of all IT conventions“ is continually changing – just like the IT sector as a whole. After the last few years with a focus on business needs (B2B), in this year CeBIT 2010 in Hannover (Germany) reached out to the consumers again. Examples were the new exhibition and event hall “CeBIT Sounds”, impressive 3D-TV demonstrations and a gaming competition.
Business people however still use the biggest IT convention in Europe to gather insights on the latest trends in the industry: Here are my thoughts
- Cloud Computing is increasing popular which centers around “Software as a Service” such as Google Apps
- IT security also had many booths
- “Green IT” is a new topic that has gained a lot of momentum and describes business models that are optimized around both ecologically and economically aspects
- Open Source Software is becoming more and more important for the small and medium business sector, as could be clearly seen in the CeBIT exhibition halls.
This comes at no surprise, as Open Source systems prevent proprietary vendor lock-in and are generally free of licencing costs.
